Can't Stop a Readin'

Since I started this blog a few months ago, I've read a ton of books. Way more than I did all of last year. I like the process after finishing a book of adding it to Goodreads.  It makes me feel as if I've accomplished something. Part of it, I think, is that I believe I've found my writing niche with YA (these are the books I've been devouring).

I just finished Lauren Myracle's Kissing Kate. I started by reading her middle grade books (Eleven and Twelve) that I bought at a library sale. I liked her style and found she writes YA, also. I like her simple style, mainly because I always felt like I wrote in the same simple way.

Today I found Sara Zarr's Story of a Girl at the library. Can't wait to get into that one tonight!

I am totally with you... I'm so obsessed with reading right now, hubs makes so much fun of me. I have a stack of books from the library that I am TRYING to get through before I owe late fees. And I LOVE the feeling of being able to add another review to Goodreads!

I'll look into the books you mentioned.

I just paid over $13 in late fees today, an I'm still missing two DVDs. Never take out books right before you move! I was finding them all over the place:)

I do the same thing, only with Visual Bookshelf on Facebook. I feel oh so accomplished, even if no one will ever look at the list except me.

I feel so accomplished when I can add my finished book to my Goodreads list!!! I made a goal this year...like how a lot of people make a 100 book goal for the year...only mien is significantly less! No way do I have the time to read 100! But 30...that's more doable for me...I hope!! Especially now that I am taking my Sony Reader to the gym!!

I haven't gotten much from the library since getting my Reader, but when I did...I was so thankful for online renewal.....So so easy to click "renew" and I was good for another 3 weeks!

You must not have a "resistance movement" in your home keeping you from getting to the bottom of the page. My boys love to read and we share YA books, but they can't stop talking to me while I read.....and I'm supposed to be setting an example!

I've been keeping pace with my 2010 reading challenge to finish 50 books this year. Nothing inspires my writing like a good book!

About your Sunday post, how exciting you found hardwoods under your carpeting!! I'd be ecstatic! Best of luck with the nursery :))

Reading really helped me develop my voice and figure what I wanted to write. I go through phases sometimes I read a book a day and sometimes I go weeks without reading one.

I'm itching for more YA. I just read Kelly Parra's Invisible Touch and LOVED it. Everything seems to be paranormal (vampires, etc) and I don't want to read that.

I used to be so afraid of writing something horrible, that I wouldn't write anything at all. I'd have a half-hour or so to myself and instead of getting as much down as I could, I'd type, delete, retype and delete again. I had to have perfect sentences formed from perfect ideas. It didn't work. It took me years to finally learn to just write anything. Even if it's crap (and it usually is first time around). But I'm finally OK with writing a crappy first draft. Yet Another Embarrassing Confession (you would think I'd have run out by now)

The absolute worst part about being a writer for me is grammar and punctuation. With every post I put up, every email I send and every story I write, I am waiting for someone to come back to me and say, "Seriously? How can a writer not know where to put commas?" Commas are my enemy. I have no clue where they go. I try to put them where I think would be a natural pause in a sentence, but I know I'm usually wrong. I basically toss them up in the air willy-nilly and let them land where they want. Can you recommend a grammar/punctuation book that is easy to understand? (I never took a "real" English class in high school, so I'm starting fresh). The Elements of Style is too...sterile for me. I need something I can easily grasp onto. I'd greatly appreciate any, suggestions. (<< that comma was a joke. See, at least I can joke about my ignorance)

Out of the Closet in 1st Grade

I went to #30 school for first grade. Every morning I walked by myself down Otis Street to the school. There were always a bunch of kids outside the door waiting to get in. The older mature (10 years old) security guards wore their safety belts guarding the doors. No one was getting past them until it was time to go in. One morning when I got to the doors there was no one there. Not one kid was outside. I was super late. Or so I thought. I ran through the doors and down to my first grade classroom. It was completely empty. I wasn't late, I was early. Instead of going back outside to wait for other kids to show up, like a normal person, I decided to climb into the coat closet and sit on the floor and wait. I don't know how long I waited in the dark on the floor, but eventually I heard kids coming into the room. I nonchalantly slid the closet door open, stepped out, hung up my coat and sat down. If I looked suspicious, no one ever said anything.
