Gender Bender
(from The Write-Brain Workbook)

If you are a female, write as if you are a retired male New York police officer who lives with ten cats.
If you are male, write as if you are a retired female receptionist from New York who lives with twenty cats.

Start with:
I remember that day in July when it hailed...

I love the "writing Prompt's"! I feel like you do - so afraid they'll find my journals with all the "junk" in them - so afraid that I won't even keep a "true" journal. I mostly keep memories about the kids . Maybe I should write a disclaimer on page 1 of a real journal and go for it!

Thank you. I just started keeping a journal about a week ago. Mostly because I saw one I loved at Barnes and Noble and had to have it:) But I still hold back a little. I'm afraid to write how I really feel about people/things in case someone finds it. I guess we can just hope they find them long after we died, then it won't matter:)
Wow, I LOVE the way you do your writing prompts! I think I'll introduce this to the librarian! Do I answer to your prompt here???

Hi Elizabeth, Yes, please feel free to put your response here. I'd love to read it. I'm alternating between taking the prompts from various writing books, and making them up.
The cat screeched as I made a run for the window. Sirens blared. Red and blue flashed. Shouts.

My heart squeezed my chest. I swear, at this age, I'll soon join my dear wife Gladys in her grave.

Did I really miss them good old days when I could actually see my feet? When I could chase down those no good thieves from old man Chin's pawn shop? When I could chug a gallon of milk in five minutes along with a dozen Krispie Kremes for a lousy ten?

I panted my way to my beat up old sofa, and laughed at the cat's defiant stare.

"Yeah, Mittens, you better get outta my way--you and your buddies." I stare it down. "Stupid cat," I mutter under my breath.

If it wasn't for Gladys's love of cats, I would've fed all ten to Spike ages ago.

(I love this, Lisa! I hope you don't mind if I steal your writing prompts ideas for my blog! I'd LOVE to hear your writing, too!)
PS--I don't mean to take the ones you already have here, but just the idea of having prompts on the blog.

:D

Great job! Of course, steal away! I'm finding I have just enough time to write a post and the prompts, but not enough time to actually do them. I'm working on getting a few days ahead and saving posts and prompts, so hopefully I can start adding my own.

That's ok, even if you wanted to use these, go ahead:)
oops, I didn't see the hailing part...sorry! :(
